Voisey's Bay hydrometallurgical demonstration plant, Newfoundland
Voisey’s Bay Nickel Company plans to process Labrador nickel concentrate at a new plant on Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula. The plant, involving a new hydrometallurgical process, will be developed in three stages. First, a 1/1000-scale mini-plant (completed in 2005); then a 1/100-scale demonstration plant has been constructed on-site in Argentia and in the startup phase. This plant will operate for two years allowing Inco to fully test the process. Finally, if feasibility is confirmed, full-scale plant construction will begin in 2009 for a 2011 startup. Our joint venture, SGE Hatch, is responsible for full EPCM services including DCS configuration and commissioning of the plant.
